What Are The Tips For Cutting Different Materials With Laser Cutting Machines?

1. Cutting metal materials

Carbon steel

Auxiliary gas: When cutting carbon steel, the commonly used auxiliary gas is oxygen, because oxygen as a combustion aid can greatly improve the cutting efficiency, and the oxide film produced during the cutting process increases the beam spectrum absorption factor of the reflective material. However, it should be noted that the edge may be slightly oxidized when cutting with oxygen.

Cutting tips: According to the specific cutting needs, parameters such as laser power, gas pressure and cutting speed can be adjusted to obtain the best cutting effect.

Aluminum

High reflectivity: Aluminum has high reflectivity and thermal conductivity, so an "anti-reflection device" needs to be installed before cutting.

Auxiliary gas: When cutting aluminum, it is recommended to use nitrogen for cutting to obtain a smoother cutting section and better cutting effect.

Cutting tips: According to the equipment power and aluminum thickness, select the appropriate cutting parameters to ensure the cutting quality.

Stainless steel

Auxiliary gas: When cutting stainless steel, nitrogen is generally used as an auxiliary gas to obtain a burr-free cutting surface and reduce post-processing procedures.

Cutting tips: According to the material and thickness of stainless steel, adjust the parameters such as laser power, gas flow and cutting speed to ensure cutting efficiency and quality.

Copper and brass

High reflectivity: Copper and brass are both highly reflective materials, and a laser cutting machine with an "anti-reflection device" is required for cutting.

Cutting thickness and gas selection: Brass with a thickness of less than 1mm can be cut with nitrogen; copper with a thickness of less than 2mm can be cut with oxygen. For thicker copper materials, more complex cutting strategies are required, such as combining the use of oxygen and nitrogen.

2. Cutting non-metallic materials

Glass

Cutting characteristics: When laser cutting glass, it is mainly processed in a non-contact form, and the cutting edge has no mechanical stress, and no shear burrs and chips are generated.

Notes: Adjust the appropriate laser power and speed to avoid using excessive power to cause glass breakage. At the same time, it is necessary to wear appropriate protective equipment to ensure safe operation.

Ceramics

Cutting tips: When laser cutting ceramics, it is also necessary to control the appropriate power and speed to avoid material breakage. At the same time, ceramic materials have high hardness and brittleness, and require high cutting accuracy and equipment stability.

Plastic

Cutting method: There are two main ways to cut plastic: vaporization cutting and melting cutting. Vaporization cutting heats the surface of the material to boiling point through a focused beam and produces steam to erode the melted wall; melting cutting uses high-pressure gas to blow out the molten material from the cutting area.

Precautions: Choose the appropriate cutting method and parameters according to the type and thickness of the plastic. At the same time, it is necessary to prevent the plastic from burning and producing harmful gases.

Wood

Cutting characteristics: Blackening will occur when laser cutting wood, especially when cutting thicker wood boards.

Cutting skills: Use high-speed and low-power cutting methods, and use compressed air to blow to reduce blackening. At the same time, you can choose appropriate cutting parameters and auxiliary equipment according to the texture and hardness of the wood.
