Products Description

A 100W CO₂ laser engraver is a CNC system that uses a CO₂ gas laser for precision engraving and cutting of non-metallic materials. Its medium-high output power enables both detailed surface engraving through scanning and efficient full-penetration cutting, via rapid thermal ablation. This performance bridges the gap between hobbyist and commercial-grade equipment.

Production Principle

Laser Generation: Electric excitation of CO₂ gas mixture produces an infrared laser.

Beam Delivery & Focusing: Mirrors and a final lens collimate the beam into a high-energy-density focal point.

Material Interaction: The focal spot irradiates the substrate, inducing rapid thermal ablation (melting/vaporization).

Operation Modes: Engraving via surface-scanning ablation; Cutting via through-section penetration, assisted by gas jet.

Control: Integrated CNC system coordinates laser parameters and motion path for precision machining of non-metals.

Good Point

Superior Cutting Performance: Enables rapid, clean through-cut of thick materials (e.g., acrylic, MDF), a core capability absent in low-power alternatives.

High Throughput: Accelerates both engraving and cutting cycles, ideal for small-batch manufacturing to boost productivity and ROI.

Broad Material Versatility: Processes diverse non-metals including wood, acrylic, leather, glass, and stone.

Premium Finish Quality: Delivers polished edges and fine detail, minimizing post-processing for end-product-ready results.

Full Automation: Integrated CNC control enables unmanned operation after file setup, slashing labor requirements.

In summary, the 100W laser system offers an optimal balance of power, speed, quality, and versatility, bridging the gap between prototyping and commercial production.

Summary: Closed-Loop Workflow

Design → Transmission → Control → Action → Finished Product

The user designs a pattern or path in computer software (such as LightBurn).

The software converts the pattern into digital instructions (G-code) and sends them to the laser engraver's controller.

The controller drives the motor, controlling the trajectory of the laser head and modulating the power of the laser tube.

The light generated by the laser tube is focused by a system of reflectors and focusing lenses, creating a high-energy focal point.

The focal point moves across the surface of the material, instantly vaporizing it through thermal effects, achieving the desired engraving or cutting effect.

Throughout the entire process, the exhaust system continuously operates to remove toxic fumes and particulate matter, ensuring a safe working environment.

Motion System

Screw Drive vs. Belt Drive:

Belt Drive: The most common, fast, and low-cost, it can meet most engraving and cutting needs. It may require tensioning after extended use.

Screw Drive: It offers higher precision, greater rigidity, virtually no backlash, and an extremely long lifespan. However, it is slower and more expensive. It is more common in high-end or large industrial machines.

Guide Rails: Square linear guides are far more stable, durable, and load-bearing than round shafts, making them a hallmark of high-quality machines.

Exhaust and Filtration System

Basic: Centrifugal fan + ducting to exhaust directly outdoors.

Advanced: Electrostatic precipitator + activated carbon filtration system. If your studio cannot install an external exhaust duct, this is the only safe option. It effectively captures smoke particles and absorbs most odors, but requires regular filter replacement and has limited filtering effectiveness against certain toxic gases (such as those produced by cutting acrylic). External exhaust is always preferred.

Autofocus and Leveling System

Manual Focus: Use a focus ruler or block and rely on operator experience.

Autofocus: Using a capacitive or inductive sensor, this feature automatically detects the material surface and adjusts the laser head height before processing, ensuring optimal focus at all times. This significantly improves production efficiency and consistency, and is highly recommended for commercial users.

Red Light Positioner

A small red LED mounted on the laser head simulates the laser's path before processing. This is crucial for precise material positioning and avoiding engraving errors, making it a must-have feature.

Summary: Who needs it?
The 100-watt CO2 laser engraver is ideal for:

Small entrepreneurs and studios looking to transform their creative ideas into commercial products and produce small batches.

Sign shops seeking to improve processing capabilities and efficiency for materials like acrylic and wood.

Handicraft enthusiasts and model makers who need to work with a variety of materials and have high demands for cutting performance.

Educational institutions and makerspaces: As a core digital fabrication device, it meets the needs of teaching and creative work.
